About Bike Walk Golden Isles

Bike Walk Golden Isles (BWGI) was formed in 2019, as a community advocacy organization of concerned citizens who wanted to make Glynn County and the Golden Isles a safer place to cycle, walk, run and roll. Those citizens formed a board of directors, and BWGI earned non-profit status in 2021.

In 2022, BWGI was awarded a grant from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to expand our efforts, which included hiring our very first Executive Director, Tavel Cowan. Through her leadership, the GOHS grant funding was increased two years later, enabling BWGI to add Eve Christy to our growing organization as Education Coordinator in 2024. In addition to the grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, we are also funded through BWGI membership dues, fundraising, grants, and generous gifts from our supporters.

BWGI hosts a variety of safety classes, supports local events, and works with government officials and other nonprofits to increase safe and accessible ways to cycle, walk and roll.

We are a 501 (c)(3) organization, registered as BWGI Incorporated through the IRS, employer ID no. 87-2721106. For more information on non-profit funding, please visit Library of Congress’ non-profit guide.
