BWGI hosted an event Saturday to promote bike safety amongst local kids. Volunteers oversaw a “bike rodeo” during which participants learned bike safety rules and developed their cycling skills before embarking on a 1.5-mile ride/walk/run through downtown. The event also featured food, music and other diversions.
Bike Walk Golden Isles hosted our first community bike ride on May 24! The Celebrate Bike Month ride attracted more than 30 local residents who cycled and rolled through Historic Downtown Brunswick at a conversational pace. Many thanks to Silver Bluff Brewing Company for hosting us and to the Gullah/Geechee BRAG Dream Team for leading the way and providing a post-ride bike valet. What an excellent way to celebrate cycling in our great community! Join us for our next community ride coming soon!
Bike Walk Golden Isles completed a long-term project by finding owners for 11 refurbished bicycles! Last year, BWGI received several used bikes from the Brunswick Landing Marina and spent time getting them road ready, with some assistance from The Bike Dude. Then on April 30, those repaired bikes were distributed by BWGI board members at Community Outreach Sunday in Brunswick. In addition to the bikes, we passed out bike lights, kids’ bike helmets and bike safety pocket guides. We are so excited to keep bikes out of the landfill and pass along the fun that cycling brings to riders!
