Patti Sistrunk

Patti Sistrunk is the program manager of the Georgia Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Resource Center for the Georgia Department of Transportation. SRTS programs enable and encourage more families to choose walking and bicycling to school. Where it’s not safe, SRTS programs use strategies and engage community stakeholders to make it safer though education, encouragement, and engineering improvements.

Patti has also worked on SRTS programs in  Massachusetts, Vermont, South Carolina, and Minnesota, as well as numerous local and regional efforts. Patti has more than 15 years of experience with SRTS and 19 in transportation public engagement and marketing. Patti joined the GA Safe Routes to School team in 2009.  

She previously served as State SRTS Coordinator for the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Patti is a certified Florida Crossing Guard Trainer and is twice-trained in delivering the SRTS National Course. Patti is also a Transportation Demand Management Certified Professional (TDM-CP). She has presented at regional, state, and national transportation conferences on bicycle and pedestrian safety education and school transportation policies. She’s developed numerous school-focused bicycle and pedestrian resources and education materials.

Patti grew up in Augusta, graduated from the University of Georgia, and now lives with her two bicycle-loving children on St. Simons Island.
