Bike Walk Golden Isles officially asked the Glynn County Board of Commissioners to address numerous safety concerns on St. Simons Island. During a special commission work session on Tuesday, July 6, 2024, BWGI infrastructure chair Murray Pounds shared a presentation highlighting pedestrian and cycling issues specific to the island.

Among the concerns, BWGI is asking the Commission to address the use of multi-use paths and sidewalks, unclear rights of bicyclists crossing intersections, the use of e-bikes traveling at high speeds, adding signage along pathways, and maintenance concerns. In addition to highlighting problems, BWGI also presented solution options for the commission to consider that would make the island a safer and more accessible place to walk, run, cycle and roll.

BWGI will be working with the Glynn County attorney in the near future to discuss potential ordinance changes that will clear up confusions for not only cyclists, walkers and runners, but also drivers and police officials.
