BWGI celebrates first bike fix-it repair station

Bike Walk Golden Isles celebrated its first bike fix-it station on Saturday, August 17! This joint project was funded through a grant from Hello GoodBuy and was installed by the City of Brunswick Public Works Department at Howard Coffin Park, 1402 Sonny Miller Way, Brunswick.

City and local officials attended the event, including several Brunswick Police officers, Brunswick Recreation and Park director Vanessa Booker, Brunswick Mayor Pro Tem Felicia Harris, and Brunswick City Commissioner Gwen Atkinson-Williams. BWGI board members and supporters were also on hand to celebrate the project.

“As a city, we are focused on creating lanes for all types of travel,” Atkinson-Williams said. “We are thankful for the vibrant, enthusiastic biking community that has partnered with the city as we continue to strive and grow.”

Funding the bike fix-it station was a “no brainer” for Hello GoodBuy, said Jeff Marks, Advisory Board Chairman for the Brunswick thrift shop. “Bicycle transportation is a real thing in Glynn County. This is awesome. I hope this thing expands.” The store,  located at 1523 Glynn Ave., Brunswick, returns profits to local organizations and is an outreach of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick.

Following the event, BWGI held a community group bike ride around the streets of Brunswick, led by members of the Gullah-Gechee BRAG Dream Team.
