Bike Walk Golden Isles is thrilled to share that we are one of 343 grantees selected to receive a 2024 AARP Community Challenge grant from AARP Livable Communities and AARP Georgia to conduct a Bike Audit of the MLK/Altama corridor in Brunswick.
One of BWGI’s long-term goals is supporting the creation of a dedicated multi-use trail along the MLK/Altama corridor, stretching from 4th Street to Coastal College, and later on to FLETC. In addition to being a great path for local transportation and recreation, we also believe this would be an ideal safer option for the East Coast Greenway, a connected trail that runs from Florida to Maine, including through Glynn County.
The Bike Audit, scheduled for early October, is a way to document current cycling conditions that will be shared with local governments along with safety suggestions. To volunteer for the audit or learn more about our organization, visit BikeWalkGoldenIsles.org.
The AARP Community Challenge is a grant program to make tangible improvements in communities that jump-start long-term change. It is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live for people of all ages.
